With the advent of combination therapies, many patients now exhibit successful viral suppression to levels at or below quantitation limits of currently available HIV-1 RNA viral load assays. Therefore, it is critical that a reported change in a patient's viral load level be attributable to a change in clinical status, and not the variability of the test. The Roche AMPLICOR HIV-1 Test v1.5 demonstrates excellent precision across the range of the assay.It can reliably distinguish 0.5 log in viral load, thus easily meeting the current guidelines of the International AIDS Society^1,2.
