Increases or decreases in viral load of more than three-fold may be considered meaningful. If viral load has not decreased by at least three-fold after initiation of therapy, or if viral load goes up by more than three-fold at any time during therapy, a patient should consult with their physician. The physician will take into consideration viral load, together with other laboratory tests and with the patient’s clinical status, in recommending potential changes in treatment.
